"Volunteers are not paid. |
Community Service Is A Vital Part Of Our Organization. Not Only Is It Important To Our Lodge But It Is Important and Meaningful To The Ones That We Help.
Even the smallest of things we do such as driving an elderly person to the doctor or volunteering to cut their grass or doing repairs, counts as community service and the Lodge gets credit with Moose International. So remember to let the Lodge office know of any service or volunteer work that you do or have done. The basic information that is needed is: 1) The number of members involved 2) Number of miles driven 3) Number of hours spent on the project |
| Community Service has been an ever-growing portion of the overall Moose fraternal program ever since its inception under the name “Civic Affairs” by then-Director General Malcolm Giles in the late 1940s. The kaleidoscope of all that is Moose Community Service was organized into a “Five-Point Program” in the early 1990s, then expanded in mid-decade to the “Six-Point Program” with its familiar logo below. Except that, as you’ll see with a closer look, that familiar logo indicates a program that has grown yet again. As of October, 2007 the Moose International Six-Point Program covers service and donations to the Safe Surfin' Foundation. Lynchburg-South Moose Family Center #1727 Sponsors Student for the 2009 Congressional Youth Leadership Council |
The Lynchburg-South Moose Family Center #1727 is pleased to announce that they are sponsoring local student, Zachary Dubose, so that he may attend the 2009 National Young Leaders Conference held in Washington D. C.
The National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC) is designed to instruct and enrich promising students in a hands-on, experiential atmosphere while preparing them for a lifetime of leadership. |
Zachary Dubose and Governor Richard Blackburne |
NYLC offers students the opportunity to discuss current events and issues with top policy makers in Washington, D.C., analyze concepts and then put them immediately to work. This dynamic program features creative decision-making simulations that challenge young minds to solve problems and lead their peers through role-playing exercises in an energy-charged environment far from the traditional classroom experience.
The National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC) gives high-achieving
sophomores, juniors and seniors a greater understanding of their roles
in democracy and the responsibilities of leadership. As these students
meet with the men and women who shape laws and policies, they gain an
inside perspective on key issues. Through interaction with Cabinet
secretaries, members of Congress, diplomats, lobbyists, journalists and
academicians, NYLC scholars receive direct experience and guidance that
cannot be found in textbooks. |
