Lodge Meeting
Wednesday, September 8th, 2010
The are now three potential chances
to Win the
Lock and Key Money
!!!
The Winner of the 50/50 Ticket Draw can
take the 50/50 money
or take a chance on a key unlocking the
lock for additional money.
The monthly general membership lodge
meetings should be important to you as a member.
It is here that you learn what is going
on in the lodge and it is here that YOU, the members,
vote on the issues and recommendations
of the Board of Officers.
So please mark these important dates on
your calendar and if possible try to attend.
Lodge Meeting
Here's Why We Ask You To... Attend Lodge/Chapter Meetings
If you haven’t been to one in a while,
you might be surprised at the swift pace of most Moose meetings. You have
opportunity for effective input without wasting your time. And then you can
enjoy an opportunity to relax with friends.
Has your Lodge or Chapter ever scheduled a program
or event you wished you could have been involved with from the beginning?
Have you ever wondered why it seems you have no say in how your Lodge or
Chapter operates?
More likely than not, you haven’t been attending the
meetings of your Lodge or Chapter recently. Making it a habit to
attend those meetings regularly is obviously a plus for your Lodge or
Chapter. But we think you’ll be surprised how much you will come to see
these meetings as beneficial and enjoyable for you.
Here’s why:
First off, as of the night they’re enrolled, every
member of this fraternity has a vote—and it counts! When you attend a
meeting, you may be voting on the acceptance of new members, the
expenditure of Lodge or Chapter funds, or the election of officers.
By attending meetings, you’ll learn more about what
various Lodge or Chapter committees are doing—and who are the people working
behind the scenes. If they’re planning a special event for, say,
Independence Day, why not ask if you can help out?
By getting involved, you can slowly work toward
having more events of the sort that you Like—and that you think others would
like. By lending a hand to carry them out, you’ll know you did your best to
ensure that they were a success.
As an informed member, you will know if the Lodge
and Chapter officers are doing everything they should to ensure a successful
fraternal operation, including: Making sure the Family Activities
Committee fills the calendar with a variety of fun events every month.
Reviewing the quality of the food being served to
members and their families; Recognizing the birthdays of members by sending
cards or mentioning them in the Lodge newsletter; making sure that fellow
members or co-workers who are hospitalized are being visited and that their
families’ needs are being met; and perhaps most important, assuring that
members are made welcome when they visit the Social Quarters.
Whatever your reason for having joined your Lodge or
Chapter, attending its meetings regularly enables you to learn how it works,
and what’s happening in your area of interest.
Meetings are easy to follow, because they adhere to
a strict agenda, following Robert’s Rules of Order. Seven members constitute
a quorum for a Lodge meeting—provided that the Governor, Jr. Governor,
Prelate, or a Past Governor (in that order) is present to preside.
The Nine O’clock Ceremony (you may remember it from
the night you were enrolled) is a tradition upheld at Lodge and Chapter
meetings—and helps us all remember one of the essential reasons our
fraternity exists: our children at Mooseheart Child City & School.
Another reason to get out of the house and to the
Lodge on meeting night is—fun. It gives you an enjoyable change of pace from
your usual day-to-day routine, offering you a night out and an opportunity
to patronize your Lodge’s Social Quarters.
As a legal corporation, the Lodge’s Board of
Officers is required to hold meetings and to keep minutes. Our by-laws
require at least two meetings per month. However, special meetings may
also be scheduled for enrollment of new members, installation of officers,
changing day and time of regular meetings, proposed changes in dues,
transactions involving real or personal property of the Lodge, etc. The
Board is required to notify members in advance of all such special meetings.
So—what’s holding you back? Find out when the next
meeting is scheduled. You do have a voice in the actions, programs and
decisions of your Lodge and Chapter—but only if you’re there to exercise it!
See Ya at the Meetings......

HISTORY OF THE MOOSE INTERNATIONAL
R. ROBERT DALE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
R. Robert Dale served as Secretary/Administrator of
St. Charles, IL Lodge 1368. He was devoted to the Moose fraternity, its
precepts and endeavors. He never married; never became a father.
His sister married into a modest degree of wealth, but she never had
children either. Following the death of her husband, she and
Robert named each other in their wills.
Robert survived her – but only by a few months.
Robert Dale died on August 15, 1983 leaving an estate of more than $2
million, to be divided equally between the Veterans of Foreign Wars
National Home and the Loyal Order of Moose, both for the purpose of
providing scholarships.
Robert wanted to do a beautiful, unselfish, and divine
act. In 1985, Director General Paul O’Hollaren and the Supreme
Council approved that the interest from the Dale Scholarship Fund was to
be used for Moose members’ children who had graduated from high school,
to further their higher education, and the R. Robert Dale Scholarship
Program was created.
As of spring 2007, some 1,188 high school seniors,
living in households headed by a member of either the Loyal Order of
Moose or Women of the Moose, have benefited from Dale Scholarships –
totaling $1,188,000 since the program’s inception.
Applicants for the program must be high-school juniors
with a grade-point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. They are
eligible only if their mother, father, or legal guardian is a member of
the Moose in good standing. (One eligible application per
student).
Any state or provincial Moose Association with 15 to
45 or more eligible applicants (based on Association membership) may
draw for at least one R. Robert Dale Scholarship winner. A Moose
Lodge and Chapter can also win a bonus Scholarship for one of their
eligible students on their own combined list, if they reach 25 eligible
applicants.
The Scholarship may be used for tuition, books, and
fees at any accredited vocational or academic institution the winner
chooses to attend. |

Ordinary people can make an extraordinary
difference!
You and I can start a chain reaction
that will deliver the results we are looking for quickly --
results that will ensure that this Fraternal Order will remain
strong and productive for eternity, but we have to stop looking
for the right time to begin.
The right time to start is not next year, or next month.
It’s not next week or even tomorrow. You know as well as I
do when we need to begin. The time is now!

Sponsors of One Member
As in previous
years, a sponsor will receive a campaign lapel pin once his first
application has been reported and accepted. We believe the pins that
have been designed for “The Time is Now” campaign are among the most
attractive ever presented. The pin for the men will also hold
special meaning, as the clock tower atop the Campanile at Mooseheart
has been worked into the design. The hands of the clock are set to 9
O’clock as constant reminder of our 9 O’Clock Ceremony and our
obligation to provide for those entrusted to our care. A supply of
these bright silver finish lapel pins is being shipped to each Lodge
and should be appropriately presented to each sponsor.
Sponsors of Two Members
When a member
sponsors his first two applications during “The Time is Now”
campaign, he will receive a free year’s dues once those applicants
have been added to the membership rolls. The applicants must be
reported as enrolled by April 30, 2011.
This will generate the same question as was asked
during the short term campaign that ended in May – “What about the
life members?” For “The Time is Now” campaign, we have selected a
handsome simulated leather picture frame that will contain a very
special photo when it arrives in our qualifying life members’
mailboxes. The picture frame also features a functioning alarm
clock, calendar, temperature display, countdown timer and birthday
reminder.
Sponsors of Five Members
When members
qualify for this year’s Moose International “5 Club” by sponsoring
five applications between May 1, 2010 and April 30,2011, they will
receive their personalized “5 Club” wallet card as before. In
addition, qualifying sponsors will receive a 2010‐2011 “5 Club”
window decal to proudly display.
As was begun last year, funds that had been spent on “5
Club” sponsor recognition awards will once again be used to address
capital needs at Mooseheart. The members of the 2010-2011 “5 Club”
will provide for the purchase of two 14 -passenger vans for the
Mooseheart campus. The vans will be decaled with the same “5 Club”
logo as the window decals. We extend our sincerest appreciation to
our State and Provincial Moose Associations, who will provide the
funding to complete this project in honor of their “5 Club”
qualifiers.
"25 Club"
There are no
changes to report regarding the Moose “25 Club” for the coming year,
but there is one change to the Director General’s Circle of
Distinction recognition program. As of May 1, 2010, first time
qualifiers will receive the newly designed Circle of Distinction
necktie. The awards for the 50 level, 75 level and 100 level will
remain the same. Members who previously
qualified for the Circle of Distinction necktie will receive one of
the new ties in addition to the award normally presented for the
level they attain.
Mooseheart Centenial Award
In conjunction with the introduction of “The Time is
Now” campaign, we are unveiling the first item available to members
of this fraternity that features the official Mooseheart Centennial
logo. Members who sponsor 25 applications between June 1, 2010
and July 31, 2013 will be presented with a custom made Skagen
wristwatch for their outstanding effort. The men’s and ladies’
watches have different band styles, but both feature a black face
with the Mooseheart Centennial logo emblazoned in bright silver.
These beautiful commemorative items will only be available to
sponsors who qualify during the three year period. The watch
incentive will conclude during the actual week of the Mooseheart
Centennial celebration. |

The idea of
providing a forum, the sole purpose of which is to acknowledge the
efforts of the members who actually make this lodge "tick", came as a
welcome suggestion from one of our Lodge members.
Lynchburg-South
Moose Lodge is, by anyone's standards, a BIG business. It's
successful and seemingly smooth operation is by no means an accident.
Sure, it takes leadership, but even the most competent administrators
would be impotent in their efforts without a following of loyal,
dedicated volunteers. Though we are fortunate to have such a group
of volunteers here at Lynchburg-South, generally speaking, we are too
often guilty of failing to acknowledge the not-so-obvious; to give
credit where credit is due and of taking them and their contributions
for granted. Kudos Korner is the forum with which we hope to
make up for that shortcoming.
Sure, occasionally
we make general acknowledgments for the benefit of a handful of members
who attend the meetings, but Kudos Korner brings these outstanding members and their contributions to the attention
of the membership at large.
Be sure to watch
this column for future acknowledgments of worthy members and their
contributions. Also, the membership at large is invited to submit
names of individuals who are notable in their activities in support of
the Lynchburg-South Moose Lodge.

Also, KUDOS to ALL that helped out working the bar in the back and in

"stepped up to the plate" and jumped in to work all they could and
volunteered as needed when some employees were out due to illness.

Debbie has been volunteering for several months now. She took
the tip certification class, and has been helping out when & wherever
needed. She loves the Moose and considers her volunteer time as
therapy. I jokingly told her that's how I can tell she's new...
she now considers working here "therapy", after several years, working
here is the reason you might NEED therapy. Debbie has saved the
lodge a great deal on payroll as she works the 1-5 shift on Fridays,
which keeps me from having to pull a 13-14 hour day, and then volunteers
in the dining room.
Rick Monroe has been helping out whenever & however needed. He
helps us stock beer, ice, hooks up kegs, and helps us out with the heavy
lifting whenever necessary.
Jack Jones just recently started to volunteer with stocking as well and
seems to really enjoy it, he also did a great deal of mowing this past
summer.

March came roaring in and dumped 11 to 12 inches
of snow on us. Tony came out and pushed the roads and parking lot
off and refused to take so much as a dime for his time and gas.
It's volunteers like him that make our lodge one of the best.
Thanks again from your board of officers

Kudos to:
Mary Wilson |
Mary
Volunteers her time wherever she is needed at any time. She helps
a lot in Bingo and just the other week ended up cooking for it on a
moments notice. Her friendly smile and cheerful attitude make her
a joy to work with. Thanks again for all you do from your board of
officers.

Kudos to:
Frank
Shorter |
Frank volunteers his time in the Bingo Hall
every Monday night selling extra tickets and calling out the winning
numbers when someone bingo's. His joking way with the players
seems to keep a smile on their faces at all times. He is truly an
asset to Bingo Nights. Thanks for all you do and your time is
greatly appreciated by the board of officers.

Have a thought or opinion???? Maybe a good idea
or suggestion. A clean Joke! A member sick or has passed away. Then click
here and send it to me. If I find it appropriate, I will post it on this
site. This is for L.O.O.M.s' and W.O.T.M.s' members only. Any others I
might take in consideration but will probably not post unless is happens to be "good
for the order".
Thanks.....
